At The Warehouse, we stock a large range of solid wood indoor furniture. Many customers might not know that we also undertake a lot of custom made furniture work. Many customers, put off by the high price for “designer” furniture come to us with ideas for models they would like us to produce.  Furthermore, some spaces in customers’ homes are not suitable  for standard furniture sizes and require a customised piece to be designed and made.

We start the process with a sketch or photo of the desired piece from the customer. We have to understand what it is the customer needs. This includes everything from dimensions to leg carvings. With this information, we in turn create a full drawing with all the dimensions and details. We meet the client and go through the nitty gritty details to ensure it matches their needs. Once this is finalised we start the manufacture.

Producing the custom made piece is done in our factory in Bali, Indonesia. Wood needs to be ordered and kiln dried, accessories acquired ,all in preparation for the manufacture. Manufacture can take 3-4 weeks depending on the complexity of the item. There are factors that can extend this duration such as holidays, limited wood availability and unforeseeable factors, so we try to keep the customer updated with this throughout the process.  Once the piece has been manufactured, it is quality controlled to ensure it meets our high standards. Once approved, it is sent in a container to Dubai. Containers can take 3-4 weeks to arrive in Dubai. Sometimes we have unforeseeable delays so it’s worth bearing in mind that this is an estimated time frame.

On arrival in Dubai, the piece is checked against the order. We then meet the customer at our workshop for them to approve the item. Once approved, it is delivered. Custom made furniture pieces offer the ability to have a piece that exactly fits customer requirements and often without the high price tag found in many high street showrooms. We find customers consider the 8-10 week wait is outweighed by the uniqueness of the piece. At the end of the day, the customer really gets what they want.
